Impact Website Accessibility Keys and Features

Our site features include text equivalents of all images, and the website can be navigated without need for a browser that supports the Flash plug-in.

As an organisation that caters for people with disability, IMPACT has used site-wide shortcut keys in an effort to provide effective support for:

  • Screen reading programs
  • Visually impaired users
  • Keyboard-only users and Shortcut Keys

Screen Readers

Our website is equipped with "Skip Navigation" links that bypass repetitive navigation links on each page within our site and takes the user directly to that page's content. In addition, though our web design uses tables for layout puposes, the design has been tested for linearization, resulting in a logical content flow. The linearized reading order is the same as the visual reading order.

Text equivalents of all images have been provided. Also, though the main menu navigation system is written in JavaScript the information is fully accessible through a series of pages that imitate the menu system, and using the site map.

Visually Impaired Users

The Division's website has been designed to allow the font size to be adjusted. Most popular browsers allow the user to increase or decrease the font size. For more information on how to do this in your browser, please refer to the browser's Help features.

Shortcut Keys

The following shortcut keys are available on any page within our website:
  • Alt key + "b" will take the user to the main body content of the current page (and skip the navigation).
  • Alt key + "s" will take the user to the website's sitemap.
  • Alt key + "t" will take the user to the top of the current page.

To navigate between the main section of the website, the following shortcut keys may be used at any time:

  • Alt key + "h" will take the user to the IMPACT home page.
  • Alt key + "a" will take the user to the website's About Us section.
  • Alt key + "p" will take the user to the Program Information homepage.
  • Alt key + "v" will take the user to the Volunteer Information homepage.
  • Alt key + "e" will take the user to the Employment Information homepage.
  • Alt key + "c" will take the user to the Contact Us section.

With any of the above shortcut keys functionality and availability may vary between browsers. Some browsers may require you use the Enter key after each shortcut key combination (i.e. Alt + "f" + Enter to go to the Division homepage).
